ABOUT

Luke Mombrea is a composer originally from Oakland, California. His work spans many different mediums including concert works, art installations and scores for film and television. Luke’s work often utilizes folk materials, improvisation, microtonality and electroacoustic processing.

His concert music has been performed internationally, including performances by players from the London Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His piece Black Gold was premiered by the London Symphony Orchestra in May 2024 and was followed up by his piece Redwood Hymn receiving its premiere at the Barbican Centre in June 2025.

Luke frequently collaborates on audiovisual performances, particularly with New York-based artist, Nate Mohler. Luke’s A/V work has been featured at the Barbican Centre, SXSW, The Wallace Collection and Art Basel.

While studying at UCLA, Luke was introduced to the film music industry by interning and then working at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions. He then traveled to London where he graduated from the Royal College of Music with a Master’s of Music in Composition.

Since then he has regularly worked on large-scale film and television projects providing both orchestration and music preparation. His credits include Silo, Loki, Prehistoric Planet, Grace, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Wild Robot. His orchestrations have been recorded at Abbey Road, AIR, Fox, Warner Brothers and Sony studios.

Luke has scored films that have premiered at numerous major film festivals such as at Cannes, SXSW, BFI, Venice and Sundance. Most recently he completed the score for Point Unknown, a pilot being developed by HBO/Warner.
